#98-101 Adirondack painting on panel in "crown of thorns" wreath style picture frame
For the tramp art collector what strikes one right away is the SIZE of this "crown of thorns" or "puzzle work" picture frame; it is a rarity. If this (flexible) oval, folk art wreath, was straightened into a line it would be almost 7 feet long. The woodworking in the frame is in perfect condition which is unusual in this medium and for an item this size. The painting on panel is done in oil or tempera. We have labeled this an "Adirondack landscape" as the item was found in northern New York - but - as no documentation exists, the scene could be from many different locations or from the artists imagination. The folk art painting is in excellent condition. The frame and panel painting belong one another, both designed to be a single presentation. Likely dates to the late 1800s. 24" high x 31 1/4 wide x 3 1/4 deep. The size and fragile nature of this item would require extra shipping care and "oversize" rates would apply. offered at $2400.00
